My thoughts on: Gotham

Hello people of the internet! What you just saw was the trailer for the newest Fox TV show Gotham. Scheduled to come out in  2014 the series will tell the origins of Detective James along with the Penguin, the RiddlerCatwomanTwo-Face, the Joker, Poison Ivy, and the Dark Knight himself: Batman.
Judging by the trailer it appears that the main focus is going to be on Gordon which is interesting since the only thing I know him by was the old guy who helps Batman out and-thanks to the Nolan movies-the man who comforted a young Bruce Wayne after his parents were murdered.
Too often we focus on the hero when, in actuality, it is usually the sidekicks and other minor characters that is the most interesting. Though I think that it is great that Batman, despite having no superpowers at all, goes out and fights all sorts of baddies he still has his brain, high tech gadgets, and money to back him up.
Gordon, on the other hand, is just an average guy who just wants to do the right thing and protect his city and it will be interesting to see him develop into the wise commissioner  we commonly know him as. Another character I can't wait to see is the Joker who is-at least in my opinion-one of the most interesting, complex, and terrifying villains ever created.
Like batman despite having no powers he still manages to intimidate the other villains of Gotham and put audience and readers on edge in every medium he appears in. It was only recently-while watching a let's play of Arkham asylum and Arkham city-that I realized that I had no idea who the Joker was before he became the Joker.
Was he always insane or did he develop it later on in life?
Did he have a family, a wife and kids who loved him and if so are they still alive?
What did this man had to go through in order to become the Clown Prince of crime and Batman's strongest foe?
I guess I'll have to check out Gotham to find out and you should too.
